What is Triacetyluridine?
Triacetyluridine (TAU) is a uridine supplement sometimes used as a nootropic. Uridine is a precursor of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and supports the central nervous system’s healthy functioning. Research shows that Triacetyluridine activates P2Y2 brain receptors, which trigger activity from Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). This enhances synaptic connections, allowing neurons to communicate faster and more efficiently, thus supporting brain health and cognitive function.

How is Triacetyluridine Different From Uridine?
Triacetyluridine has been shown to increase the bioavailability of uridine in the body. Unlike typical uridine supplements, which have low bioavailability and weak fat solubility, triacetyluridine boasts superior lipid solubility and bioavailability. It works synergistically with lipids and phosphate groups and behaves synergistically with choline and fish oil to enhance mood. Harvard Medical School found that combining DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and Omega-3 fatty acids with Triacetyluridine created a healthy emotional outlook in subjects.
Triacetyluridine is still under research for its ability to promote feelings of well-being. A 6-week clinical study on human subjects concluded that TAU “improved the overall mood of subjects”. It is about 4-7 times more potent than uridine monophosphate and is lipid-soluble, meaning it can only be taken orally and not sublingually. Triacetyluridine absorbs well with food, unlike uridine monophosphate, where absorption with food is debatable. Typical dosing is between 25 and 50mg.
Triacetyluridine Dosage
As a dietary supplement, take 25mg of Triacetyluridine once daily.
